A BUILDING used to train up scores of builders over the years is now to receive its own makeover to give it a new lease of life. The former City College construction and trades centre in Preston Road, Brighton, is set to be transformed into 25 apartments. Work on the transformation of the locally listed Victorian red - brick property is expected to start within the next five months and be completed by the end of next year. Brighton- based Yelo Architects said the conversion would give house hunters the rare opportunity to secure a loft apartment in the city. The scheme, which was granted planning consent by Brighton and Hove City Council planning committee last week, involves a mixture of one, two and three bedroom apartments. Hallways are spacious and the interior design has a creative art based minimalistic feel . Sure we heard people upstairs and the floors hurt my feet while walking without shoes. Management is Solid here but they do have much to deal with so I don't expect an Oscar worthy performance every time I go to the office. A nice cozy tucked away albeit next to the Steel Shop which can get noisy at night but all in all a very vibrant place to live with Tremendous views of Minneapolis and easy access to stone arch bridge . I miss being here and walking to Hennepin Avenue at NIGHT while intoxicated (Honey, Bulldog, New Bohemia Etc) I now live in the North Loop and realize that Stone Arch Apt might be in the best location in the entire city. As Sister Christina Heltsley led families on a tour of an affordable housing apartment building in the North Fair Oaks neighborhood last month, she couldn’t help but reflect on the growing gap between the number of affordable homes on the Peninsula and the need she witnesses daily as executive director of the St. Francis Center , a nonprofit serving families in a low- income neighborhood just outside Redwood City. After the speeches, after the ribbon-cutting, after the cheering at the UConn Hartford branch on Wednesday, Roger Gelfenbien stood on the platform overlooking the main atrium and blurted out an odd recollection. “I had a great career coming out of this thing,” Gelfenbein said. “This is where I went to school.” Huh? Classes start at the new campus Monday and Gelfenbein, 74, is long retired from the roles that made him one of Hartford's highest- profile civic leaders and business executives.
