Florida freshmen James Robinson, Ventrell Miller cited for marijuana possession

Florida wide receiver James Robinson and linebacker Ventrell Miller , both freshmen, reportedly were cited for marijuana possession inside their on-campus apartment this week. As was first reported by Jacksonville’s First Coast News, citing a University Police Department report , a resident assistant was walking outside of the Keys residential complex on campus around 12:30 a.m. Monday and smelled a “strong odor of burnt cannabis emanating in the air” and then called University Police . Once police entered the room, in which both Robinson and Miller were identified, “officers found a cloud of smoke and a styrofoam cup that police say appeared to be used as an ash tray,” First Coast News reported . “Coach Mac [Jim McElwain] is aware [of the situation] and it has been dealt with,” a Florida spokesperson said Thursday through a text message. Even with the start of a new season fast approaching , Florida’s offseason of off- field discontent continues . Firstcoastnews.com was the first to report Thursday that linebacker Ventrell Miller and James Robinson were both cited for marijuana possession on Monday.  Police were called to an on-campus apartment by a residential assistant who smelled the “strong odor of burning cannabis” coming from one of the rooms.  From the website’s report: Once inside the room, officers found a cloud of smoke and a styrofoam cup that police say appeared to be used as an ash tray. Robinson and Miller were in the room. Officers asked Robinson where the cannabis was and he said it was in his top drawer. The Bristol Press - Bristol man allegedly admits to involvement in gang shooting

BRISTOL - A Bristol man arrested last week allegedly admitted to participating in a gang-related shooting on Davis Drive last year. Keith “Fleet” Gainey, 28, of 187 Surrey Drive, was charged Friday in connection with the shooting of 34-year-old Vanessa Vazquez, of Terryville, who was shot six times in the upper torso on July 11, 2016. Gainey, the second suspect to be arrested in the case, is facing charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault, illegally discharging a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and first- degree reckless endangerment . The day of the shooting, Vazquez was on Davis Drive visiting her friend, Christopher “Little” Solis, according to the arrest warrant affidavit . The warrant also said Vazquez has “strong ties” to the “DooWop” street gang - which reportedly controls the Cambridge Park housing unit - and Solis is a part of it.
