Apartment expansion planned for Colonial Grand

The build out at Colonial Grand at Randal Lakes continues , with ground soon to be broken on 314 apartments in 21 two-story buildings. The $1.1 million project will double the size of Colonial Grand at Randal Lakes, a lakefront community whose first phase of 300 apartments was built several years ago, located to the east of the Lake Nona border and directly south of Sun Blaze Elementary School . Demand to live in the burgeoning area is driving the project, which is expected to begin next month on 26.3 acres and be completed in about 18 months. The apartment project includes four building types, single-story clubhouse, cabana, cigar bar, maintenance garage, four- bay detached garages as well as integrated main-level garages, dog park and community pool. CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- A new apartment complex, specifically for homeless and disabled veterans , is coming to Chesapeake. Second Act Communities , a nonprofit based in Virginia Beach , held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for the apartment complex, Cypress Landing. "There's a large veteran population in Hampton Roads period ," said Second Act Communities President/CEO Addie Thomason. "We know that there are not enough housing units for disabled vets." The 54, 000 square foot project will include 50 apartments and cost $10.5 million. The land for the project, which is behind the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center , was donated by the City of Chesapeake. Prominent community members attended the symbolic groundbreaking event , including Virginia Housing Development Authority Executive Director Susan Dewey and Chesapeake Mayor Alan Krasnoff .
