Mon, 21 Feb 2011 19:54:10 GMT —  UTB officials identified the student that was stabbed on Saturday near campus, and later died of his injuries at the hospital. Dr. Hilda Silva, the Vice President of Student Affairs for the University of Texas at Brownsville, released a statement expressing their condolences for the family of Santiago Daniel Bernal . Bernal was a freshman at UTB and was enrolled as an International Business major . Following his death, campus officials reached out to the students living at the Estancia Apartment, where Bernal was stabbed, just blocks away from the UTB campus. According to the statement from the University, they are offering grief counseling to any student that needs it. Brownsville police responded to stabbing at about 4: 25 early Saturday morning at the Estancia Apartments, just blocks away from the UTB campus. He was transferred to Valley Baptist Medical Center where he passed away from his injuries at 5:14 a.m. The case is still under investigat...

HUD spokesman Scott Hudman  said the inspection, which continues Thursday, will include a review of security, leasing policies, management practices, tenant-management relations and general maintenance of the complex, which is located at 1600 Cliffside Drive.
