The two pilots managed to eject just before impact, suffering minor injuries along with five others on the ground. Several residents described hearing a loud explosion and looking out their windows to see the red and orange blaze. In the confusion that followed, two men helped one of the bloodied pilots from the two- seat F18 Hornet move to safety. "Oh, my God, I heard three really loud explosions, then the black smoke went up high in the sky," said 71-year-old Felissa Ezell, who lives in a townhouse near the crash site. The cats were discovered by an exterminator on June 22 in an empty unit at Patriot Pointe Apartments , located in the 100 block of Coral Gables Court . Apartment manager Terri Dray said they were left in an apartment that didn’t have electricity for air conditioning, according to documents filed in Virginia Beach Circuit Court . Virginia Beach Animal Control sealed the apartment and left a 24-hour notice for the cats’ owners. After a day passed, officials came back to the apartment and noticed that all of the seals were intact, meaning no one had entered the apartment. VIRGINIA BEACH Police plan to press charges against a person accused of injuring another person at an apartment in Virginia Beach . Two people had been had been arguing in the parking lot of the Linkhorn Bay Apartments complex at 1201 Waterfront Dr., Virginia Beach police officials said in a written statement. Police arrived at Linkhorn Bay Apartments around 2:30 p.m. where the found someone shot and suffering a minor injury, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department . Charges are pending against another person, who police believe shot the victim after the pair started fighting in the parking lot of the apartment complex . [embedded content] Virginia Beach , VA. – Two people were taken to the hospital after an early morning apartment fire in Virginia Beach . Firefighters say the fire started just after 3 a.m. at the Linkhorn Bay Apartments in the 500 block of Pine Song Lane .  Firefighters arrived on scene and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the apartment building . A second alarm was immediately called.  One female victim was rushed to the hospital with severe burns over her body and another male victim was transported for a broken leg. It took firefighters almost an hour to put out the fire.  The fire has damaged 12 apartments. Firefighters say 22 people are displaced. Red Cross is on scene this morning to help those affected by the fire. Firefighters say the cause of the fire was due to improperly discarded smoking material a second floor balcony. 

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- A new apartment complex, specifically for homeless and disabled veterans , is coming to Chesapeake. Second Act Communities , a nonprofit based in Virginia Beach , held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for the apartment complex, Cypress Landing. "There's a large veteran population in Hampton Roads period ," said Second Act Communities President/CEO Addie Thomason. "We know that there are not enough housing units for disabled vets." The 54, 000 square foot project will include 50 apartments and cost $10.5 million. The land for the project, which is behind the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center , was donated by the City of Chesapeake. Prominent community members attended the symbolic groundbreaking event , including Virginia Housing Development Authority Executive Director Susan Dewey and Chesapeake Mayor Alan Krasnoff .
