Aid and Attendance Seminar for Wartime Veterans at Timbers of Shorewood

Jim Cauthorn will present a free informational seminar titled , “Aid and Attendance,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, at The Timbers of Shorewood, 1100 N. River Rd. The program is sponsored by the American Association for Wartime Veterans (AAWV) Cauthorn will explain the benefits which are available to qualifying veterans, widowed spouses or disabled adult children . Since the Timbers opened 14 years ago , there have been more than 50 residents who have been helped through this program. Once awarded Aid and Attendance or Housebound status, veterans may obtain as much as $1,794 a month, surviving spouses $1,153 a month, and existing couples $2,054 a month. In addition to income, veterans and their spouses may qualify for free medications , medical equipment, incontinence supplies, glasses, and hearing aids. I Hated Shorts Until Athleisure Became a Thing

Whenever I put on a pair of shorts, I immediately start going through a list of insecurities in my head: I think my legs are too stubby, my calves are too wide, my lower half is too short. When I finally convince myself that it's way too hot out to even bother with this internal struggle, I put them on and find that keeping them under control is a nuisance in and of itself, having to adjust, pull out my front-wedgie, and actively monitor the cameltoe situation when I feel the inseams ride up into my groin. Plus, they make me feel childish: Shorts take me back to my grade school days , when baring legs wasn 't a big deal at all—i.e. long before I found myself constantly worrying about dress codes or whether my attire is "office-appropriate." The idea of wearing shorts as a grown woman seems off-putting to me; even during weekends, I find myself simply not knowing how to style an outfit with shorts that feels "grown-up" or "attractive"—not with my re...
