Man jumps from balcony as Tuesday morning fire at Willow Run Apartments displaces 7 people

File photo. An apartment fire Tuesday morning  at the Willow Run Apartments caused a man to jump from a balcony. The two-story fire that looks to be accidental displaced seven people, according to Mobile Fire-Rescue. The fire was reported around 8:53 a.m. at the complex at 2320 Dauphin Island Parkway . When firefighters arrived they saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the two-story apartment, causing a second fire alarm to be issued. According to Mobile Fire- Rescue spokesman Steve Huffman , the fire started in a first floor apartment and spread upward to the second level and through the roof of the structure. A 62-year-old man living in a second floor apartment received non- life threatening injuries when he jumped from a second floor balcony. Huffman said the person living in the apartment where the fire originated escaped without apparent injury and ran upstairs and knocked on his neighbor's apartment yelling that the building was on fire.  The occupant of the upstairs apa...

Fire at apartments on Quail Hollow, Carmel

No injuries were reported Tuesday morning when fire damaged a building at the Quail Valley Apartments in south Charlotte. The fire was reported about 6:30 a.m. at the apartment complex behind a shopping center at Quail Hollow and Carmel roads. Charlotte fire Capt . Mark Basnight said crews found heavy smoke coming from a building when they arrived. Basnight said it took a crew of 27 firefighters a little less than 20 minutes to deal with the blaze. He said four apartment units were affected. Two residents told the Observer that the worst of the fire was contained to a single apartment unit . A woman who lived there was able to escape safely, residents said. Her dog also got out OK.

Body found along Fair Oaks Boulevard had trauma inflicted

The Sacramento County Sheriff ’s Department is investigating whether the fatal stabbing of a 54-year-old woman found in her apartment Tuesday morning is connected to the death of her nephew, who was found hours earlier on Fair Oaks Boulevard just over a mile away. Dispatchers received a 911 call about 8:30 a.m. saying a woman was found dead in her apartment in the 1100 block of Bell Street. A relative of the woman had gone to her apartment after she failed to show up at work earlier in the morning. When deputies arrived, they found a woman who had been stabbed multiple times . She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner identified the woman on Tuesday night as Linda Jeanette Zachmeyer . Zachmeyer was found hours after the department’s homicide detectives found the body of a man on Fair Oaks Boulevard just after 4 a.m. Tuesday. ‘I don’t feel safe in my home’ — Holland Twp. apartment broken into while residents sleep

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A family in Ottawa County is on edge after they say someone broke into their home while they were sleeping. It happened around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Cascade Apartments in Holland Township. Mariana Sanchez, 15,  lives there with her grandmother and says the suspect broke in through her bedroom window.  She says she no longer feels safe in her own home, especially because she is almost eight months pregnant. "Honestly I don't feel safe in my own home," said Sanchez. Sanchez and her grandmother were asleep inside the apartment at the time of the break-in. "I looked at the front door after getting some food and there was mud all over the floor," said Sanchez. "There was mud by the door and the door was unlocked, so I went to my grandma's room and asked her if she left the door unlocked possibly for my brother and she said no. Police find man dead at Grand Forks standoff scene

Officers evacuated parts of the Autumn Ridge apartment complex on the 2400 block of 36th Avenue South after responding to a welfare check at 7:26 p.m., according to a news release issued early Tuesday morning . The evacuation was in response to learning the man had a rifle, officers said. The Grand Forks Regional SWAT and Crisis Negotiations Bomb teams were activated. Officers made several attempts to contact the man before using a flashbang device in the apartment "to initiate a response from the male" and "ascertain whether or not he was still inside," according to the release. SWAT and bomb team members eventually opened the door to where the man was located and deployed a robot. It was then discovered that the subject was deceased, officers said. JFRD says power was shut off following an electrical issue Thursday night (PHOTO: First Coast News) JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Residents of a Murray Hill apartment complex are still without power five days after an electrical issue caused service to be shut off. JFRD told First Coast News crews responded to the Kingsbury Apartments late Thursday night/Friday morning and found breakers tripping and sparking, causing an obvious fire concern . JFRD said after attempts to contact management were unsuccessful, the chief on scene decided shutting off power was the safest option. According to JEA, service was turned off in five units due to unsafe conditions. Now, a City of Jacksonville representative said it’s up to the property owner to correct the issue and make the repairs.
