Mom of 3-year-old strangled by window blinds cord sues apartments for $4 million

The mother of a 3-year-old girl who strangled on the cord of some window blinds in a Happy Valley apartment filed a $4 million lawsuit last week. The girl, Sahrye Imani Hardy , had been visiting a resident at the Pineview Apartments near Clackamas Town Center with her mother on Feb. 12, 2015, when she became entangled in a dangling cord. Sahrye's mother was in the same room with her, but hadn't realized what was happening until it was too late, said a lawyer for the estate. "These are silent deaths," said Jim Corrigan, a lawyer representing Sahrye 's estate and who specializes in window-blind- death cases nationwide . "The cord basically cuts off the ability to speak, cry or make any specific noise." The suit faults Pineview Properties , Cascade Rental Management Company and blind manufacturer Newell Window Furnishings for allegedly allowing cords longer than 71/4 inches to hang from the window covering at the apartment complex at 8366 S.E. HUD spokesman Scott Hudman  said the inspection, which continues Thursday, will include a review of security, leasing policies, management practices, tenant-management relations and general maintenance of the complex, which is located at 1600 Cliffside Drive. He said he was not certain when the results of the review would be made available. "It will take them some time to synthesize the information and draw conclusions," Hudman said. The HUD inspec...

Chesterfield mobile home residents might have to move as apartment developers eye suburb | Business

Image
The only mobile home park in Chesterfield seems out of place. Since it was built 50 years ago , glass-and- steel corporate headquarters and upscale subdivisions have slowly surrounded it. In a suburb that means big homes , new shopping centers and shiny office campuses to most St. Louisans, it’s a wonder there still is a place to park a trailer. But developers have turned their sights to the Chesterfield Mobile Home Park , where roughly 140 mobile homes offer some of the most affordable housing along the Highway 40 (Interstate 64) corridor. If the developers can rezone the land, residents could be forced to try and move their mobile homes. “This has been sitting here since 1987,” said resident Charlie Oakes , gesturing to the mobile home he lives in with his wife, Lisa Oakes. “We don’t know if it’s moveable or not.” Despite the political pitfalls of buying land out from under mobile home owners , some of whom may struggle to move their trailers, the developers’ int...

Saxony Apartment Building

Quizzes Lists Topics Save The Saxony Apartment Building is a historic apartment building in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. Located along Ninth Street in the city's downtown, [1] this five- story brick building includes a distinctive range of architectural details. Among these elements are brick pilasters and projections, a three- story bay window on each side of the symmetrical main facade , semicircular balconies , and many stone pieces, such as pediments, keystones, and stringcourses. Due to its location at the intersection of Ninth and Race Streets, the Saxony appears to have two fronts: one onto each street. Although the Ninth Street facade is larger and more complex, the Race Street facade is nevertheless ornate as well: it features small yet elaborate semicircular balconies with wrought iron railings similar to those of the Ninth Street facade . [2] Constructed in 1891 according to a design by leading Cincinnati architect Samuel Hannaford , [1] the Saxony Apart...
