(WDTN Photo/Charlisa Gordon) VANDALIA, Ohio (WDTN) – A man was found dead inside an apartment in Vandalia after police had reports of a standoff situation . Family member of the deceased man called him earlier and they said he had a worried tone to his voice. Then family members called police to check on the man 12:30 PM. The Vandalia Special Response Team was called to the home, on Heather Court near Stoney Springs Road around 3 PM for a standoff. The special response team used a bullhorn to try to initiate contact with the man.  They eventually entered the home, just after the 6 PM, found a man in his 20s dead from a gunshot wound. LAKEPORT >> The woman alleged to have caused a deadly senior apartment fire in 2016 will face a preliminary hearing on September 7 in Lake County Superior Court . Tracey Renee Morales , 62, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and causing a fire that led to great bodily injury in a blaze that caused the death of Deborah Dianne Dowdy , 53, in Lakeport. Judge Stephen Hedstrom presided over a recent court appearance and set the matter for a long cause hearing. Investigators determined that Morales was smoking while using oxygen on the evening of August 21, 2016. The action ignited a fire that spread through the Lakeview Senior Apartments at 525 Bevins St. in Lakeport. Deborah Dianne Dowdy , 53, was found dead inside the complex. The children's mother and three men from another apartment were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries in the fire at Colonial Gardens Apartments , 8845 Broadmoor Court, according to Jason Rhodes, a spokesman for the Overland Park Fire Department . Two of the injured men reportedly jumped from the second floor to escape the blaze. Fire investigators are looking into whether there were working smoke alarms in the apartments. The mother of a 3-year-old girl who strangled on the cord of some window blinds in a Happy Valley apartment filed a $4 million lawsuit last week. The girl, Sahrye Imani Hardy , had been visiting a resident at the Pineview Apartments near Clackamas Town Center with her mother on Feb. 12, 2015, when she became entangled in a dangling cord. Sahrye's mother was in the same room with her, but hadn't realized what was happening until it was too late, said a lawyer for the estate. "These are silent deaths," said Jim Corrigan, a lawyer representing Sahrye 's estate and who specializes in window-blind- death cases nationwide . "The cord basically cuts off the ability to speak, cry or make any specific noise." An Escondido teenager and her unborn child died in a shooting Saturday evening . Now, police are searching for the teenager’s boyfriend in connection with her death.
