Danish firm  Schmidt Hammer Lassen  has released visuals of its first US project: a mixed-use development in Detroit, Michigan, bound by two glazed towers overlooking the city's historic theatre district . Schmidt Hammer Lassen was commissioned for the  Monroe Blocks scheme by developer Bedrock Detroit , and is working on the design with local architects Neumann Smith and engineering firm Buro Happold . Two glazed towers will stand at either end of the 1.25- hectare development boarding Monroe Avenue , the city's historic theatre district . Its oldest remaining theatre , the National Theatre by renowned Detroit architect Albert Kahn , stands on the site. It was built in 1911 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The future of the theatre and its role in the development are yet to be decided. A BUILDING used to train up scores of builders over the years is now to receive its own makeover to give it a new lease of life. The former City College construction and trades centre in Preston Road, Brighton, is set to be transformed into 25 apartments. Work on the transformation of the locally listed Victorian red - brick property is expected to start within the next five months and be completed by the end of next year. Brighton- based Yelo Architects said the conversion would give house hunters the rare opportunity to secure a loft apartment in the city. The scheme, which was granted planning consent by Brighton and Hove City Council planning committee last week, involves a mixture of one, two and three bedroom apartments. Just outside of Sharlene Carlson's secluded condominium patio , redwood trees tower overhead and filtered sunlight dapples the cool dirt floor below. "I love living here," said Carlson of the Palo Alto Redwoods , a 117-unit complex in south Palo Alto built on the site of a former redwood-tree nursery. "I thought I was going to buy and then move up, but I'm in a serene place. It's almost a spiritual place. I look at the redwood trees and feel peaceful and calm." The Milwaukee Plan Commission in June 2016 held a hearing on the $55 million project, and ended up with a tie vote. Monday’s meeting of the commission, which again had a lengthy public hearing , ended ultimately with a 4- 1 vote endorsing the development. Madison- based Palisade Property Management is seeking city approvals for a 27- story apartment building with 192 apartments atop the Lake Michigan bluff at 1550 N. Prospect Ave. “I believe this is a truly unique site, one of the best in the city, and what we have proposed is the highest and best use of the site,” said Chris Houden, who operates Madison- based Palisade Property . A skyscraper that would be the tallest residential building in California has been proposed for downtown Los Angeles as the neighborhood’s housing boom rolls on. Crescent Heights , a Miami-based developer, submitted a proposal to the city Planning Department this week to build a 70- story apartment building that would stand out in size and design amid the rapidly growing South Park district east of Staples Center,  the Los Angeles Times reported Friday . The 810-foot building with 794 units would be the third-tallest in Los Angeles behind the recently opened Wilshire Grand hotel and office tower and the U.S. Bank Tower office building completed in 1989. An 18-year-old in Alexandria, Virginia, is accused of trying to rob someone on a bike trail and then grabbing a woman in an apartment building nearby .  Joshua Sprinkle, of Alexandria, was arrested and charged with attempted robbery, attempted abduction and sexual battery. Police believe there may be additional victims.  Alexandria police responded about 3:25 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14 to an attempted robbery on a bike trail near Holmes Run Parkway . According to police, a man grabbed the victim from behind and demanded money. The victim struggled with the man, and the man ran away. Only 35 minutes later, at about 4 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of N. Jordan Street after an assault was reported. A woman was walking up the stairs of an apartment building when someone grabbed her buttocks, police said. The woman screamed and the man ran away. Promising a “ mini North Hills ” for Apex, the developers of the Sweetwater neighborhood returned to the Apex Town Council Tuesday to ask for permission to build 230 apartments above the ground-level retail and office space initially planned for the area. The 4-1 vote in favor of that request, with Mayor pro tem Nicole Dozier dissenting , was Apex’s first to allow the construction of what’s called vertical mixed -use development, which combines residential and commercial tenants in the same building. Sweetwater is a 165-acre, mixed-use development on the south side of U.S. 64 in west Apex designed by Triangle- based ExperienceOne Homes . DALEVILLE — Eighteen months after a Botetourt County business announced it was expanding, the county is making official an economic incentive package that nails down a promise of 50 new jobs. A performance agreement with Arkay Packaging Corp . was approved Tuesday by the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors. Arkay will receive $225,000 in county funds in return for its plans to invest $15.5 million in new equipment at its plant in the EastPark Commerce Center near Bonsack. Also required by the agreement is the creation of 50 new jobs within five years. An informal performance agreement was reached in 2015, the year before the expansion was announced. VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man is wanted for murder in connection to the death of a woman found in a vacant Virginia Beach apartment Monday . Zorobabel Matthan Griggs (Photos: Virginia Beach police ) Police say the woman was found dead in an apartment at the Summer Haven complex off Baker Road around 10: 00 Monday morning . Police identified her Wednesday as 36-year-old  Keisa Overby Staton , of Chesapeake. Investigators are now searching for 42-year-old Zorobabel Matthan Griggs . He is wanted on charges of murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Police described Griggs as being about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing around 200 pounds. He has a gray goatee and mustache, a shaved head and has a tattoo of “Kayos” on both his chest and arm. He also has a scar on his cheek.
