New program in Park Hill puts students side-by-side with busines

High school freshmen from Park Hill South and Park Hill High School came together under one roof at the LEAD Innovation studio.
The 150 students are part of a program where they share the building with real life professionals and apply the skills they learn to their everyday life.
“It sets a professional tone,” said Charlie Parsons, a student at LEAD Innovation.
And parents are just as excited for the new program offered at the Park Hill School District.
"It’s a beautiful space and it puts them in a real world situation so I’m really excited for it,” said Teresa Parsons, Charlie's mother.
Rather than having teachers they’re called facilitators.
Becky Morse is a math facilitator, and she says her curriculum is a little different than it would be at your traditional high school.
"They get both the content piece but they also get the application piece and it’s personalized learning where they get to go at their own pace," Morse said.
With the first jitters out of the way, students say they’re excited to make the lead innovation studio their home for the next year.
"Project-based learning actually helps kids retain the information and learn it instead of just studying to a test and then forgetting it," Charlie said.
The district just bought land to build permanent LEAD Innovation studio. They hope to have that completed by fall of 2020.
