A 23-year-old man was shot to death in an Ocala apartment complex Saturday night.
On Sunday morning, the shooter was still at large.
The Ocala Police Department identified the dead man as Delvontaye Boyd, who lived in the apartment at Laurel Park Apartments where the body was found.
Police got a call about shots fired at Laurel Park, 100 NW 23rd Ave., Unit 1822, at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to OPD. The first officer arrived at 9:33 p.m., went up to the third floor, entered the apartment and found the man dead from a gunshot wound.
The officer called for assistance, and the area was roped off with crime-scene tape. Officers said witnesses noticed a male leaving the area who got into an unknown vehicle.
Boyd lived at the apartment with his girlfriend and child, police said. The girlfriend and child were apparently not at home when the shooting occurred.
At this point, officials said it doesn't appear there was a forced entry into the apartment.
Detectives would not say where Boyd was found, how many times he was shot or what type of weapon was used in his killing. Officials said they do not have a motive for the homicide.
Late Saturday and into Sunday morning, detectives were interviewing people at the complex and elsewhere, trying to piece together what led up to the shooting.
Family members gathered just feet from the front door. They cried, neighbors shook their heads in disbelief, and some wiped away tears when firefighters and police officers carried Boyd's body down the stairs and loaded it into a white Medical Examiners Office van parked nearby.
