Southwind Apartments - Apartments - 3902 Old Savannah Dr, Cincinnati, OH - Phone Number
Best Feature: Okay apartment conditions and affordable prices Worst Feature: TERRIBLE service from landlord + co.!! So I hate giving poor ratings on my reviews, but once in a while you find that business or establishment that just leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. This is definitely one of those for me and I wanted to get this review out there to warn others who might be looking for an apartment to rent. I was a tenant here for 3 years starting in May of 2007. When I first moved in, they had a older landlady who was very nice and unless you were blatantly rude or disrepectful, would work hard to help with any of your apartment problems. I was shown an apartment there and liked their prices - the 1-br apartment I was looking for was decently sized (for 1 occupant) and they allowed cats/dogs for a monthly fee ($25 per pet). The apartments were in decent condition for the most part - some little issues here and there, but it was livable and didn't have to deal with pest problems and few neighbor issues. I was, in my opinion, a good tenant - I was the only occupant in my 3 years there and I kept the apartment fairly clean and made sure to leave it that way. My biggest problems started when the landlady left the company and the maintenance manager became the landlord. Suddenly, mediocre service went from okay to terrible. It was hard enough to get apartment issues fixed before the change, but after the elderly landlady left I had a really hard time getting any help. My front door had a lock that started malfunctioning, leaving my apt. vulnerable to intruders, and it took them many weeks to respond and get anyone in to fix it. I transferred from a bottom floor apt to a higher floor about 2 years into living there, and they tried to charge me double rent for living in two apartments at once. Luckily I did the math and called them out on it, otherwise I would've paid them a lot of extra money. Then when I moved in, I asked for a few problems to be resolved in the new apt (broken window screens, etc.). They never were, despite repeated requests, and they charged ME for previous tenant's issues when I moved out. Don't bother cleaning on your way out - they give you a list and say if you clean or work on some of the maintenance issues, they won't charge you extra fees. Instead, both times I moved apartments I cleaned and they charged me for it anyway despite the fact I left the apartment in impeccable condition. I scrubbed the refrigerator spotless and found a lovely charge on a bill saying I owed them for THEM cleaning the refrigerator. I did a lot of work to leave the apartment spotless and instead did it all for a fee. I tried fighting them on it, but unfortunately forgot to take pictures to prove it and they charged me regardless. If you have pets, they WILL charge you for carpet cleaning/replacement even if your animal makes no messes at all. I even recommended them to a friend, and I feel terribly about that because I didn't know they would be so awful for them as well. When my friend moved out, there were a lot of bogus charges for him as well including a heating register maintanance fee. They claimed he left the window open or some such and there was extensive water damage. However, my friend was always careful about closing windows and locking doors (I can attest to this as I lived just across the way from him and we often looked in on each other's places) and he got a huge bill when he left as well. I will never, EVER live here again as I feel they do nothing but provide inadequate service (especially since the landlord services changed about a year or so ago) and charge you unfairly. It's an alright place to live (better than some complexes) but my service experience here has been very costly and poor.
