Aspen Village senior apartments in west Mission nearing the construction phase

A new senior housing complex is getting ready to take off this winter in Mission. The Aspen Village complex could start construction in December at the Mission Crossing development on the west edge of the city.
The market-rate apartments are planned to have 101 units, according to Jeff Berg at LANE4 Property Group, which is developing the complex. It will have both one- and two-bedroom apartments. The project is estimated at $13 million, according to the city.

The Aspen Village complex is the last component of the Mission Crossing project that includes retail along its western edge near Metcalf. The apartments will be located across from the post office and to the east of the retail section.
LANE4 also donated a parcel of land at the southwest corner of Martway and Broadmoor for a city park and added a monetary donation of $100,000 which will complete the park improvements. The pocket park is expected to be built in the fall of 2014 or spring of 2015. The apartments are expected to be completed next winter or into the spring of 2015.
At 105,000 square feet, the apartment building is primarily three stories, but with a fourth story on the north side where the grade of the land falls considerably. The building generally runs north-south with a wing on each end extending back to the west.
Housing is a relatively new venture for LANE4, which is better known for its retail projects in the area. Berg said the apartments, although market rate, are designed to be affordable and to allow seniors to age in place. The complex will not be licensed for any medical care or assistance, but residents will have transportation and meal options.
Another 32-unit senior citizen apartment project was recently proposed for a site just north of the Aspen Village. That project, by Brinshore Development, is designed for low-income seniors.
