J.E.B. Stuart Monument in Richmond vandalized

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Police are investigating after a person was shot at the Linkhorn Bay Apartments on Treetop Drive.

According to police, the call came in at 2:28 p.m. for a gunshot victim.

The investigation revealed that the suspect and victim were involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The altercation moved into a residence when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Residents living in the complex say they originally thought the sirens they heard were responding to an accident on the highway.

“We started walking the dogs, that’s when we saw the undercover police officers cars, the tape, and all the officers,” said Tiffany McGregor.

McGregor has lived at the complex for five years and says it’s usually a quiet area with friendly neighbors.

“It’s a community. We look out for each other. For this to happen is extremely surprising,” she said.

McGregor says the incident shows that anything could happen anywhere.

“Everybody, especially in the world we live in, if you see something you don’t think is a big deal, make sure you say something to someone because unfortunately that’s the world we live in and not everyone’s out there to help you. There are people out there willing to do harm and not think about the consequences,” she said.

The suspect has been identified and charges are pending.
