Fire damages apartment in Apple Ridge | News
CIRCLEVILLE — A man was left homeless about 10 p.m. Wednesday after a kitchen fire damaged his apartment at Apple Ridge on Lancaster Pike, but no injuries were reported.
Charles Stanley said he was not home at the time of the blaze in unit 49 but was alerted to smoke coming from his apartment by a neighbor.
“They hollered that my apartment was on fire, and when I got back here, the whole place was smoked up,” Stanley said.
Stanley said he lived alone in the unit and would be staying with a friend for the night. Volunteers from the Pickaway County Red Cross also arrived on the scene to provide assistance to Stanley following the blaze.
According to Captain Kirk Edgington, the fire started in the kitchen of the small apartment unit from a stove that was left on.
“There is heat and smoke damage throughout the apartment, but the flames mainly damaged the kitchen,” he said.
Edgington said AEP crews were able to isolate the apartment unit, so service was only disrupted at the single location and did not affect neighboring apartments or buildings.
He said nearby units likely suffered smoke damage, though, and would require an industrial cleaning service.
