A 53 year old man has been taken to hospital after an apartment fire in Stoney Creek.

He’s being treated for smoke inhalation. The fire broke out around 5:30 this morning in a nine storey building at 837 Queenston Road, east of Centennial Parkway.

Crews quickly put out the fire inside a seventh floor apartment and vented the upper floors.

A second tenant in that apartment got out safely, but several pets in the apartment have died.

An electrical fault is believed to have sparked the fire. Damage is estimated at $25,000.
