UTB announces plans to buy La Estancia Apartments

The University of Texas at Brownsville plans to buy La Estancia Apartments, aiming to close on the real estate in July, a statement issued Thursday said.The request to purchase the complex for student housing was approved by the UT System Board of Regents Wednesday, the university said. The apartments are located immediately southeast of campus at 2651 FJRM Ave

The campus’ current student housing is The Village. Owned by Texas Southmost College, The Village opened in 2003 and houses 300 students, according to UT System documents.

La Estancia Apartments, located on a 7.34-acre tract, were built in 2009 and include 103 units with 429 beds. It is currently a private complex, but it will be run by the university once it is purchased.
