Mid-rise apartments, townhomes planned for Oak and Larrabee in Chicago’s Cabrini-Green

Brinshore Development

While news regarding the redevelopment of the large swaths of vacant, publicly-owned land on Chicago’s Near North side has been sparse as of late, at least one piece of the Cabrini-Green puzzle has come into focus. A recent discussion on the development-watching forum at Skyscraper Page unearthed plans from Northbrook-based Brinshore Development for a mixed-income project slated for the corner of Oak and Larrabee streets.

According to information posted on the developer’s website, the plan would include a new seven-story apartment building, a pair of rental six-flats, and 18 for-sale townhomes between Larrabee and Walton. Developed in partnership with the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA), the $33.5 million project will deliver a total of 104 units by the year 2020.

The latest plan for Oak and Larrabee is not to be confused with Texas-based Hunt Development Group’s proposal for a nearby 6.9-acre vacant parcel at Clybourn and Larrabee. Announced in February, that plan calls for 500 units of mixed-income housing across a 21-story tower, mid-rises, and townhouses.
