Two adults are in stable condition at UF Health Shands Hospital after their apartment caught fire Friday night, Gainesville Fire Rescue officials said.

Two adults are in stable condition at UF Health Shands Hospital after their apartment caught fire Friday night, Gainesville Fire Rescue officials said.

Two adults were burned, and three other adults were evacuated along with children and two dogs. The fire reached the attic space, which caused smoke damage to the rest of the Deerwood Apartments on Northwest 55th Boulevard, said Michael Cowart, operations chief, in the release.

Red Cross officials were helping those displaced from their homes and fire rescue officials are looking into what caused the fire.
