Man arrested for OVI blames restaurant worker for drunken state: Mayfield Heights Police Blotter
MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio
Impaired driving, Cordova Road:
Officers responded to a domestic incident in progress around 10 p.m. Aug. 6 and discovered a man involved had left the house drunk. His vehicle was stopped in the area and he told officers he and his girlfriend got into an argument when they arrived home from a Japanese restaurant. He admitted he was drunk and said an employee at the restaurant kept squeezing sake drinks into his mouth. It was determined the argument never turned physical. The man, 48, was subsequently arrested for OVI and possession of marijuana.
Suspicion, Ashdale Road:
A resident reported Aug. 4 there was a suspicious vehicle in a neighbor's driveway and he believed the owner of the vehicle was selling drugs to that resident. Officers stopped the vehicle as it was leaving the area and the driver, a 62-year-old Cleveland man, said he was visiting a friend at the home. He was found in possession of two pill bottles, containing Tramadol and Oxycodone. The man said he bought the pills in Cleveland for $10 each. He also had over $600 cash in his possession. He was cited for expired plates and improper display of plates and further charges are pending.
Traffic complaint, Maplewood Road:
A Mayfield Heights woman, 35, was charged with possession of drug abuse instruments after her vehicle struck a curb around 5:30 a.m. Aug.7 and remained stopped at a stop sign. Officers also located an unknown white substance and 22 Xanax pills in the vehicle. The woman said the substance was "meth." Further charges are pending an investigation by the drug enforcement unit.
Theft, Golden Gate Plaza:
A Cleveland woman, 30, was issued a warrant for theft by deception after she and a party of people left Chuck E. Cheese Aug. 7 without paying a $253 bill. She was identified from her reservation for the child's party and a post on her Facebook page placing her at the restaurant that day. Officers have not been able to make contact with her.
Theft, Mayfield Road:
An apartment resident reported Aug. 7 for the second time in the last six weeks her debit card was missing and fraudulent charges had been made on it at the Walmart in the city. She said some pain medication and a necklace also appeared to be missing from her apartment. She suspected a resident's son, who used to work maintenance at the complex, may be responsible for the theft. She said she still sees him in the building and she thinks he may have a master key. Officers advised her to have management change her locks. The incident is under investigation.
Disturbance, Washington Boulevard:
Officers responded to a home Aug. 8 for a report of a disturbance between a man and his 22-year-old daughter. The woman said an argument started after her father began making racial comments due to the race of the father of her children. She also claimed he pushed her. The man told officers the woman came home with a bad attitude and he does not approve of her boyfriend. The two agreed to separate for the night.
Theft from building, Parkland Boulevard:
A Lyndhurst man, 32, is suspected of theft from a business after multiple iPhones and a laptop computer were stolen Aug. 8. The man is a janitorial worker, who employees of the company had suspected and set up by placing a broken iPhone in an area monitored by surveillance video. At the time of the report, the man had been informed by his company that he was no longer allowed on the property, but officers had yet to speak with him.
Property damage, Golden Gate Boulevard:
A resident at Pepperwood apartments said Aug. 5 the front tires on his minivan had been slashed during the overnight hours. He only requested special attention to the area.
Theft from building, Marnell Avenue:
A resident said Aug. 3 he had furniture delivered and he believed the movers stole cash and money orders from his home. He said he would try to receive the money back from the money orders and file a report if needed. The manager of the moving company told officers he spoke to the drivers who delivered the furniture and they would be happy to cooperate with police if needed.
