Two Children Killed in KS Apartment Blaze

| Share | Share | Share | Share Aug. 15--Two young children were killed and several others were injured when fire swept through their apartment building early Tuesday in Overland Park. The children's mother and three men from another apartment were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries in the fire at Colonial Gardens Apartments , 8845 Broadmoor Court, according to Jason Rhodes, a spokesman for the Overland Park Fire Department . Two of the injured men reportedly jumped from the second floor to escape the blaze. Fire investigators are looking into whether there were working smoke alarms in the apartments. They have received conflicting reports , Rhodes said. The fire was reported shortly before 2:30 a.m. at the apartment complex. While firefighters were in route, there were reports of victims being trapped inside the burning building so a second alarm was called, Rhodes said. Body found along Fair Oaks Boulevard had trauma inflicted

The Sacramento County Sheriff ’s Department is investigating whether the fatal stabbing of a 54-year-old woman found in her apartment Tuesday morning is connected to the death of her nephew, who was found hours earlier on Fair Oaks Boulevard just over a mile away. Dispatchers received a 911 call about 8:30 a.m. saying a woman was found dead in her apartment in the 1100 block of Bell Street. A relative of the woman had gone to her apartment after she failed to show up at work earlier in the morning. When deputies arrived, they found a woman who had been stabbed multiple times . She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner identified the woman on Tuesday night as Linda Jeanette Zachmeyer . Zachmeyer was found hours after the department’s homicide detectives found the body of a man on Fair Oaks Boulevard just after 4 a.m. Tuesday. Firefighters battle blaze at Laurel apartment building

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Firefighters battled a large blaze after a Laurel apartment building caught fire on Tuesday evening. According to Jones County Fire Council , Shady Grove and Sharon Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of a fire on Holly Drive at the Laurel North Apartments , and additional units were called for backup because the building was fully involved.  Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire was rapidly spreading through the building's attic, catching other apartments on fire.  Initial reports indicated that the apartments were empty, but upon arrival, some residents began to speculate that others were still inside. Firefighters searched the apartments and found no one trapped inside and later confirmed that that everyone was accounted for, according to the fire council.  Three dogs were reported to be inside the apartments and firefighters managed to rescue two as others battled the blaze. Two people injured in Virginia Beach apartment fire

[embedded content] Virginia Beach , VA. – Two people were taken to the hospital after an early morning apartment fire in Virginia Beach . Firefighters say the fire started just after 3 a.m. at the Linkhorn Bay Apartments in the 500 block of Pine Song Lane .  Firefighters arrived on scene and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the apartment building . A second alarm was immediately called.  One female victim was rushed to the hospital with severe burns over her body and another male victim was transported for a broken leg. It took firefighters almost an hour to put out the fire.  The fire has damaged 12 apartments. Firefighters say 22 people are displaced. Red Cross is on scene this morning to help those affected by the fire. Firefighters say the cause of the fire was due to improperly discarded smoking material a second floor balcony.

On Sunday morning, the shooter was still at large. The Ocala Police Department identified the dead man as Delvontaye Boyd , who lived in the apartment at Laurel Park Apartments where the body was found. Police got a call about shots fired at Laurel Park, 100 NW 23rd Ave ., Unit 1822, at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to OPD. The first officer arrived at 9:33 p.m., went up to the third floor, entered the apartment and found the man dead from a gunshot wound. The officer called for assistance, and the area was roped off with crime-scene tape. Officers said witnesses noticed a male leaving the area who got into an unknown vehicle. Fire Sparks Inside Encinitas Studio Apartment

Firefighters battling a fire that sparked inside an Encinitas studio apartment Monday were able to contain the flames, confirmed the Encinitas Fire Department . The fire began around 3:30 p.m. in the garage on Saxony Road, just south of Leucadia Boulevard. The location is near Highway 101 and just east of Interstate 5. When firefighters arrived , they found the studio fully engulfed in flames. They were able to extinguish the fire, and there were no residents inside the house at the time. According to fire officials , it was first reported as a garage fire. Once crews made entry after containing the fire, the garage appeared to have been converted into a studio apartment with a large office area . At this time, there have been no reported injuries. Fire at apartments on Quail Hollow, Carmel

No injuries were reported Tuesday morning when fire damaged a building at the Quail Valley Apartments in south Charlotte. The fire was reported about 6:30 a.m. at the apartment complex behind a shopping center at Quail Hollow and Carmel roads. Charlotte fire Capt . Mark Basnight said crews found heavy smoke coming from a building when they arrived. Basnight said it took a crew of 27 firefighters a little less than 20 minutes to deal with the blaze. He said four apartment units were affected. Two residents told the Observer that the worst of the fire was contained to a single apartment unit . A woman who lived there was able to escape safely, residents said. Her dog also got out OK.

WESTLAKE, Ohio -- A North Ridgeville firefighter suffered minor injuries during an early-Thursday fire that displaced residents of a Westlake apartment complex . Debris fell and hit the firefighter in the head. He was taken to a hospital for treatment but has since been released, according to the North Ridgeville Fire Department . No one else was injured in the fire that broke out just before 4 a.m. at the Barrington Place Apartments on Detroit Road. Twelve residents were taken to the Westlake Recreation Center for shelter. Firefighters from multiple departments arrived at the complex and found the attic engulfed in flames. It took several hours to knock down the fire, which caused significant damage to the building. DEER PARK, Wash. - Spokane County Fire District 4 reports that a fire in an apartment complex in Deer Park Saturday morning has been ruled accidental.  Firefighters were called to a fire at 15 N. Weber Ave. in Deer Park around 8:15 a.m. and found smoke and flames coming from the vents of the roof of a two story apartment building . All occupants of the building had been evacuated by Spokane County Sheriff 's Deputies. The family in the apartment where the fire broke out was not home at the time. Crews immediately entered the apartment and quickly put out the fire, which was contained to the upstairs bathroom. The fire was believed to have been caused by the bathroom fan. No injuries were reported.
