Man arrested for OVI blames restaurant worker for drunken state: Mayfield Heights Police Blotter

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio Impaired driving, Cordova Road: Officers responded to a domestic incident in progress around 10 p.m. Aug. 6 and discovered a man involved had left the house drunk. His vehicle was stopped in the area and he told officers he and his girlfriend got into an argument when they arrived home from a Japanese restaurant . He admitted he was drunk and said an employee at the restaurant kept squeezing sake drinks into his mouth. It was determined the argument never turned physical. The man, 48, was subsequently arrested for OVI and possession of marijuana. Suspicion, Ashdale Road: A resident reported Aug . 4 there was a suspicious vehicle in a neighbor's driveway and he believed the owner of the vehicle was selling drugs to that resident. Officers stopped the vehicle as it was leaving the area and the driver, a 62-year-old Cleveland man, said he was visiting a friend at the home. EU probes Bayer’s planned buyout of Monsanto

ANTITRUST EU agency to probe Bayer’s acquisition of Monsanto The European Union’s antitrust watchdog said Tuesday that it has launched a probe into German chemical maker Bayer ’s planned acquisition of US seed and weed- killer company Monsanto . The European Commission, which polices competition in Europe, said it has concerns that the merger may reduce competition in areas like pesticides and seeds. Monsanto last year accepted an offer from Bayer to pay $57 billion to its shareholders and assume $9 billion in debt. Were it to go ahead, the buyout would create the world’s largest integrated pesticides and seeds company.
