The owners of the Fox Creek Estates senior apartments in East Amherst plan to build a mixed-used development of apartments, offices and retail space next to their Transit Road property . Two three-story buildings are proposed at 9540 Transit Road , north of Casey Road. The same partners behind the 9540 Transit site own the townhomes just to the south at 9512 Transit and the senior apartments at 9500 Transit, said Sean W. Hopkins, the owners' attorney. The applicant, Fox Creek Estates III LLC , is seeking to rezone about 1.8 acres of the 6.8-acre suburban-agriculture site for the buildings and parking spaces, leaving most of the north portion that runs along a neighboring subdivision permanent open space . The first floor of each building would house retail and office space, and the second and third floors would hold 38 apartments total . The Amherst Planning Board could take up the rezoning request in August.

colonial grand at madison.jpg A woman's body was pulled Wednesday night from a pond at the Colonial Grand at Madison apartment complex . (WHNT News 19) Madison police are investigating the death of a woman at an apartment complex in the city.  Police officers were called around 10 p.m. Wednesday to the Colonial Grand at Madison apartments, where they found the body of a woman floating in one of the community's ponds. Colonial Grand at Madison is located near the intersection of Madison Boulevard and Hughes Road. Detectives are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the woman's cause of death. As of Thursday morning, the case remained classified as a death investigation.  Investigators are withholding the woman's name as they try to find her next of kin. AL.com will update this story when more information becomes available. 

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A family in Ottawa County is on edge after they say someone broke into their home while they were sleeping. It happened around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Cascade Apartments in Holland Township. Mariana Sanchez, 15,  lives there with her grandmother and says the suspect broke in through her bedroom window.  She says she no longer feels safe in her own home, especially because she is almost eight months pregnant. "Honestly I don't feel safe in my own home," said Sanchez. Sanchez and her grandmother were asleep inside the apartment at the time of the break-in. "I looked at the front door after getting some food and there was mud all over the floor," said Sanchez. "There was mud by the door and the door was unlocked, so I went to my grandma's room and asked her if she left the door unlocked possibly for my brother and she said no. Real estate investment trust Essex Property Trust Inc. has purchased a 705- unit apartment complex in Playa Vista for $124.5 million from the developer of the master-planned community near Marina del Rey . The Fountain Park Apartments , which opened in 2000 at Lincoln and Jefferson boulevards, was the first development at Playa Vista to be completed by Playa Capital Co. of Los Angeles. When complete, Playa Vista is expected to be home to 13,000 people and also will include office and retail projects. Most of the planned 5,848 units will be for-sale housing. About 2,000 people live there now, owners said. The sale was part of Playa Capital's plan to develop and sell property or to sell land to other developers "who have nationwide reputations," President Steve Soboroff said. County Animal Services along with a number of local shelters are waiving pet adoption fees Aug . 19 as part of Clear the Shelters adoption drive , an effort to get as many pets as possible into permanent homes. More than 300 animals are currently up for adoption at the County’s three animal care facilities in Carlsbad, Bonita and central San Diego . Animals include dogs , cats and rabbits along with some chickens, turtles and guinea pigs. In addition, about a dozen other shelters are participating throughout San Diego County Dogs and cats will be altered, vaccinated and microchipped; rabbits will be altered and microchipped, all at no cost to the adopter. An online petition against the proposal had drawn 295 signers as of Sunday night. A kitchen blaze sent Magnolia firefighters to the Fox Creek Apartments off Lacari Street on Monday night. Firefighters were alerted to the fire at 6:45 p.m. and a pumper truck and Tower 1 were dispatched. They arrived to find a small fire in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment. The apartment was in a building on the north side of the Fox Creek site . No injuries were reported.

Police say in a news release that Harris County, Texas, sheriff's deputies arrested 24-year-old Shanta Massey on Sunday. The arrest came after New Orleans investigators learned she was in a Houston apartment complex . Police say they have a warrant for her arrest in the shooting of 25-year-old Jeren Johnson. Johnson was a passenger in a Nissan Altima that ran into a parked Ford truck on Dec. 6, 2015. Investigators found that the car's driver was wounded and Johnson was dead. Police say the warrant accuses Massey of second-degree murder, which would mean an automatic life sentence if she's charged and convicted.

They have a workout room, jacuzzi, pool and small business area with computers (no printer - they used to have and I wish they would replace it). It is a quiet building, with security guards and security cameras and doors so that is nice. It is very pretty in and out with no bug issues (I hate bugs! so this is major for me) The complaints about the peeling paint and general dirtiness in the stairwells has been true from time to time, but they eventually do clean and paint. We have had water run off issues in those areas, so it took a while to repair. The general upkeep is good overall. Everyone has always been very nice and friendly to me and all repair/maintenance issues are immediately addressed. You can hear people walking above, but that does not bother me. The $13. 5 million Dillard project is scheduled to break ground in October and be completed in spring 2019, Deb Wendel-Daub, a Kilbourne project manager , said Wednesday, Aug. 23. The construction site is now a parking lot owned by the Dillard family but had once been home to row houses and a lumberyard, according to Kilbourne. Like many parking lots, it's not appealing to pedestrians and the new building is intended to change that. The Renaissance Zone Authority on Wednesday recommended tax exemptions for the project worth $967,000 over five years. After the incentives expire, Kilbourne estimates it would pay $202,000 a year in property taxes. The parking lot now pays $2,400 a year. Because the area is also part of a tax- increment financing district paying for a city- owned parking ramp that the developer finished in June, the taxes would go towards the ramp.
